Villa 29

Located on the coast in Nha Trang, Vietnam; this hillside villa design was greatly modified from developer issued plans, with the aim of opening up the spaces to engage the surrounding ocean environment. As a result of the modifications, each room has a direct view of the ocean with plenty of light and privacy. Construction was completed in 2015.

The specific challenge of this project was to turn relatively ordinary plans that had little consideration for the local context and privacy into a dynamic and engaging space sheltered from the neighbouring villas. Visual trajectories to the coast and cross viewing issues from adjacent properties, including those above on the hillside, were carefully considered to shield the villa from the other properties field of view whilst simultaneously opening it up to engage the hillside setting and stunning ocean scenery.

Infinity edge swimming pool was incorporated to emphasize the continuity with the ocean below. All beds are designed to have direct views towards the ocean with each room having its own ensuite bath.  Large glass sliding doors were employed to allow full opening of the main living spaces essentially transforming it into an open-air pavilion seamlessly connecting the interior and exterior spaces.

The villa was designed as a private beach home with vacation rentals when not in use by the owners. Interior decor was updated by the owner several times over the years to keep it fresh for rentals. The villa scored high with vacationers for its layout and aspect towards the ocean, including the excellent services and catering provided by the original owners. A top rated rental on several booking sites until the property was sold in 2021.
