PP Tower

Located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, this 15 storey tower features 11 floors of apartment units and a 3 floor penthouse complete with private rooftop infinity-edge swimming pool. Situated at a cross road, the building takes advantage of cross breezes and maximizes daylighting and outdoor access with ample balcony space for each apartment, including a wrap around continuous balcony for the 3 bedroom corner units.

We wanted to create a building that was engaging, airy and light-filled, with dynamic, comfortably sized interior spaces directly connected to the outdoors with the space for green areas on the generous sheltered balconies, adding value for the residents, where a flat feels like a ‘home in the sky’.

In order to maximize the NSA, one of the primary objectives was to maximize the floor efficiency, keeping the core and service risers to a bare minimum. The proposed apartment mix includes 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units. Finish floor-to-ceiling heights were fixed at 2.8m with sliding doors filling the full height to allow the ceiling plane to extend beyond the glazing, level with the underside of the balcony above, creating a spatial continuity unbroken by headers. Windows were also proposed at full height to accentuate the sensation of living in the sky.

Living in the tropics truly begs for some form of outdoor space in one’s habitation, balconies are wonderful spaces where a few plants can feel like a full-blown garden. All balconies in this project have a minimum clear depth of 1.2m (4 ft). And situated as such to extend the space of the interior just enough to draw one’s perception beyond the enclosing walls making the space feel larger and less ‘boxed in’.

The 5 bedroom penthouse was designed for the primary investor: home and office were to be combined. The penthouse area is 1,140 sqm total with 860 sqm of interior living space + 280 sqm of exterior garden terraces including the pool. The lower level houses office space, an employee’s kitchen, maid’s quarters, and a full-feature cinema strategically situated for serving both business or private entertaining needs. The public space of the office is carefully separated from the primary living zones to not have any unintentional crossovers between the 2 functions.  The main level features an expansive singular space that comprises the living + dining + lounge areas, framed by a 2-storey garden on one end and the pool terrace on the other; this level also includes an enclosed gourmet kitchen, laundry/service area and 2 of the bedroom suites. The top level includes the 3 remaining bedrooms. All bedrooms include private ensuites with a small garden area.
